The African American doll is capable of speaking over 220 words in the form of sentences. So, this feature helps children learn about AI, algorithms, coding techniques, and webpages. Also, it can help raise awareness about cyberbullying.

Celebrating the diversity and brilliance of African American culture, Somi ignites curiosity and instills confidence. She is equipped with interactive features and can explain complex topics in an easy-to-understand way.

Aside from the doll, Bukola Somide has published two books to promote CS education.

  1. “Somi the Computer Scientist: Princess Can Code” is an interesting storybook. It’s a comprehensive learning tool that comes bundled with coding exercises and an audiobook.
  2. The other one is an activity book – “Computer Science Activity Book for Girls & Boys”. It fosters a deeper understanding of computer science concepts through programming exercises.

A graduate of the University of Maryland, Bukola Somide is an education technology innovator. She is a seasoned software professional and the Founding CEO of Innovant Technologies.

Bukola Somide laid the foundation of CompSci ABC in 2017. The non-profit organization is helping raise computer science awareness in black communities.
